Think you've been scammed? Do this first

  1. Stop all contact. Hang up, stop replying, and don't send more money, even if they promise to return what you've paid.
  2. Call your bank or card company using the number on the back of your card. Acting quickly can sometimes stop a payment.
  3. Change any password you shared, and anywhere else you used the same one.
  4. Report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. If someone has your Social Security number, use IdentityTheft.gov.

There's no shame in it. Scammers are professionals who fool smart, careful people every day. Ask a family member or someone you trust to help you with these steps.
